Issue of Concern (IOC) Submission Process

Purpose

The Faculty Senate provides a structured process for faculty members to submit Issues of Concern (IOCs) for discussion and potential action. This following outlines the steps faculty should follow when submitting an IOC.

Who Can Submit an IOC?

Any NC State faculty member, including faculty senators, may submit an Issue of Concern.

How to Submit an IOC

Faculty can submit an IOC through the following methods:

1. Online Submission Form

2. Email: Send your concern to faculty_senate@ncsu.edu.

What Happens After Submission?

1. Acknowledgment -The Faculty Senate office will confirm receipt of the IOC.

2. Executive Committee Review

The Executive Committee will review the IOC and decide whether to:

-Assign it to a committee for further discussion.

-Address it through a memo, resolution, or Faculty Senate presentation.

-Determine that no further action is needed.

3. Possible Outcomes

-Email Response: If no formal action is required, a summary of the resolution will be sent to the originator.

-Memo: If the IOC requires administrative attention, a memo may be sent to the relevant department or administrator.

-Resolution: If faculty action or advocacy is needed, the Senate may draft a resolution for discussion and voting.

-Presentation to Faculty Senate: Some issues may be brought to a full Senate meeting for broader discussion.

Follow-Up

Faculty members who submit an IOC will receive updates on its status if they provide their contact information.

A summary of resolved IOCs may be included in the Faculty Senate’s monthly newsletter.
